One of the most common questions new marketers ask is what niche should I get into?

Sometimes online market is divided on 3 categories:

Wealth
Health
Relationship

Most guides you see online will ask you to turn your interest/hobby into a business.

That advice may be right, but there are two problems.

1) Your interest may not be an easily profitable niche.
2) Your interest may change.

What niche should I get into?

Forget about your interest.

You should do business in a niche that is easy to find customers. Not just customers but customers who can refer more customers to you.

Instead of focusing on your interest, find a niche where you can put your natural ability or aptitude into good use.

Interest may change, but your natural ability is not likely to change.

For example, I like to create things since young. That’s my natural ability.

After I got into online marketing, I learned programming, which allowed me to create different tools and systems for the home business niche.

I know a successful affiliate marketer who also likes to create things like me.

But his way of using his ability is to create different innovative marketing campaigns and copywriting strategies to generate more affiliate sales.

Same natural ability but different skill sets result in different ways to make money online.

Different people have different natural ability.

Some people are naturally a star. They like to be in the limelight. For them, they can run a webinar business, become a public speaker etc.

Some people are a natural deal maker. They may enjoy striking deals with manufacturers and selling things on Amazon.

There are too many ways to make money online. If you have tried some and still haven’t achieved the success that you want, that’s because you have not found one that matches your natural ability, or you haven’t found the right niche that can let you use your natural ability to make money easily.

What 2020 has taught us about life?

2020 has taught us that the adversity we face and the resilience we respond with has the power to shape our lives. With each challenge, we are given the opportunity to persevere, learn and grow into stronger, more compassionate and more grateful human beings.

For better or worse, the last year has changed us. And now, looking back, we can see that the lessons we’ve learned—about health, family, work, resilience, community, and humanity—are lessons we’ll carry forward into the New Year.

In terms of lessons learned, a few thoughts in no particular order:

Never take things for granted, whether they are trips, weddings, family gatherings and especially health.
People are very resilient. Within one business day, real man switched from a downtown office to remote work.
It is always important to get fresh air and exercise, particularly during COVID.
Staying connected with family, friends and co-workers is crucial.
We can be very effective and client-responsive, even during a lockdown.

Why I avoid making money?

Let me explain….

Instead of making money, I prefer to invest my time building passive income.

What’s the difference?

Making money is one-time. Passive income is recurring.

Some friends and relatives ask me why don’t I help people to create websites, since I can code.

You see, creating website for people will earn me some money, but if I use the same time to create a new system, that system can earn me recurring income for years.

Let me give you more examples to further illustrate the difference.

Trading stock is making money. Building a portfolio of stocks for dividend and long term capital gain is passive income.

Promoting an ebook is making money. Promoting a membership program with recurring commissions is passive income.

Passive income

Having been in the internet marketing niche for more than 10 years, I have seen gurus come and go.

One problem with many gurus is that they focus on making money.

They may make a lot of money initially, but when they get tired or lazy, their incomes drop quickly.

I focus my time on building passive income.

Although my earning is slow initially, they add up over time.

At times when I am lazy, my income may shrink but very slowly. That gives me enough time to take a breather and continue building my passive income.

So, while you’re focus your time and energy in building your business, be mindful whether you are simply making money or building passive income.

After taking a speed reading course, Tony Robbins is known to have read 700 books in 7 years, averaging 2 books per week.

But why 700 books?

Well, the quote “The more you learn, the more you earn.” is very true.

But not everyone can speed read, and not everyone that does a speed reading course reads that fast.

So, if you can’t speed read, how can you increase your learning and earning power?

Well, I myself go through at least 2-3 books each week.

But here’s my secret… I don’t read them.

And not only do I not read them, but I don’t even take notes.

Yet, I use the books to grow at an alarming rate, and I get more out of books than someone who reads them cover to cover.

It sounds too good to be true, but I can assure you it is true.
